I feel extremely lucky that I live only minutes from the beach. Although moving in itself is a major pain, I was excited to move to our new place and open the windows. And just… breathe.
Besides the true beauty of the ocean and all of its majesty, there are benefits to living so close to the beach:
No air-conditioning bill. My apartment does not have an air conditioner. While that one fact may send some running for the hills, that is a plus for this budget-conscious girl. Our previous place was so darn hot in the summer, that you could not live without the A/C. Sweltering was not an option. We had no ceiling fans and floor fans with a child that had just started walking was a definite no-no. Needless to say our electric bill during the summer was always in the three digits… and I am talking about the numbers before the decimal.
Living by the ocean means lots of windows being left open, and overcast mornings. And no high electric bill. I can live with that!
There is always something to do. I see lots of trips to the beach in our future, especially during the summer. There are great places to park for free, so no money involved there. And if you bring a picnic lunch, no money spent on food! Swim in the ocean, ride bikes, people watch, etc… There is so much to do and it doesn’t cost anything out-of-pocket.
Fresh air. There really is something to be said about the ocean air. To me, it is magical, and you feel like anything is possible. The ocean air rejuvenates me like nothing else, and it truly is a panacea for whatever is troubling you at the moment.
I am already excited for the summer and can’t wait to start building some sand castles! Okay, at least attempt to anyways!
