I survived my vacation to Santa Barbara. Yes, I use the word survive, cause really? Have you ever travelled with a two-year old?
Although the vacation was very much-needed, my husband and I tried to save money where we could. Even though we paid cash for everything, we didn’t want to break the bank either.
Here is how we saved on our vacation:
Free Breakfast: Yup! Free breakfast! Continental breakfast was provided at our hotel every morning we were there, at no charge. You know I need my coffee ;)Bagels, muffins, fruit, yogurt, juice, toast, etc… This helped with the overall cost of food. When you are on vacation, you tend to eat a lot, so this saved us some dough.
Drink Water at Meals: This is an old piece of advice, but it works. We ordered water at lunch and dinner and this saved on the cost of the meal. And hey if we needed caffeine, our hotel had coffee going 24/7 in the lobby. For free. Gosh I love saying that word: free.
Use Coupons When You Can: We took my daughter to the zoo and used a coupon to save on admission. Know how we scored the coupon? We mentioned to the person checking us in at the hotel, that we planned to go to the zoo the next day. And just like that, he handed us a coupon, and said to have a good time. Score!
Share Meals: My husband and I tried to share meals when we could or my daughter and I shared a meal. Food is expensive yo, so sharing meals is definitely the way to go. And it really was just enough food.
All in all, we had a great time in Santa Barbara. The mission was beautiful, the zoo was fun, and the weather was gorgeous. We had fun and the mini-vacation was just enough time away.
